Scarves and Cardigans

Hi guys! This week I decided to amp it up a bit, so here goes one of my favorite posts so far. First of all, I want to thank my friend Lourdez for the pictures, I loved them! Lourdez is a photographer, and she contacted me because she's been reading my blog lately. She told me that she wanted to take a few photos of me to include in her portfolio. I'm so thankful that you chose me for your portfolio photo shoot; you're so talented with the camera! Also Lourdez did the editing for me this time, so all the picture credits go to you.

Now let's talk about the outfit. On this occasion, I really wanted to give you guys some stuff that you could be actionable on (as in "I want those shoes! How can I get them?"). I've included links to some of the articles I'm wearing down below, so I really did my research online to find most of the stuff. Here I'm wearing a very simple, though ageless combination of varsity cardigan with a monochromatic striped scarf. I can't understate how well scarves and cardigans go together, plus they help keep your warmth in mild weather without making you uncomfortable. I've also been super obsessed with joggers lately; I've got a few more I will show you in future posts in other colors and textures. For this post I'm rocking my latest pair of army green joggers from Nordstrom. They're so comfy, and also they are warm (even they might suggest the opposite). To finish this look, I'm also wearing my pair of Lugano shoes from 1901 also from Nordstrom. I really love this color (mahogany is super "in" this fall/winter season) and I'm also wearing low-cut socks that match my shirt's color (I like these tiny details). Finally, in the last pictures you can see me rocking a gray H&M coat which was really a bargain. I got it for like $100 last winter season and it's one of my favorite coats because of how easy it is to combine with different colors. It looks good with anything, and I can either button it or zip it up. So what do you think? Are you going to start mixing scarves and cardigans for the cold season?

I want to once again thank Lourdez for the beautiful photos, hopefully we'll be collaborating more in the future. I also want to thank all of you, my readers, for keeping this blog alive with your comments, views, and reads. Your support through all means has been amazing, and you motivate me to continue improving my craft, from my writing skills, to the outfits I'm wearing, to my pictures, to the layout of the blog. Basically, everything I do is thanks to you. Upcoming is Thanksgiving and I can't wait to share with you my Thanksgiving dinner outfit. For the time being, remember to wear bold outfits and to keep being stylish. Till the next! Early Happy Thanksgiving!

Motor City

Hello everyone!!! I hope you are all having an awesome week so far and thanks again for stopping by and reading my shenanigans. That means so much to me! I'm really happy guys because I finally got my camera back with my Detroit pictures. Yay! Apparently I did leave it in the trunk of the rental car while staying there, and after a few calls back-and-forth with the rental car agency they finally found it and had it shipped. I love my camera so much, it's like, the first item I would probably go and grab if my apartment caught fire; I'm super excited to have my baby back.  It's also one of the main instruments that I use for creating this blog, so I no longer have to go and borrow other people's cameras.

So back to the post, I fell in love with Detroit. It's definitely one of the most interesting cities I've been to in the US. I was a little weary about it since people had told me mostly negative things about the city: that it was dangerous, old, dirty, and abandoned. And even though some of this was true, there is a real charm the city possesses that's reflected in every corner and every building. In the 1920s and 1930s, Detroit was a big commercial and economic center in the United States, and the city flourished thanks to a growing working middle-class. Car companies, among other manufacturers, heavily developed in this area, hence its nickname of the "Motor City".

Years went by, and as any big city, Detroit started to become polluted, crowded, and eventually crime heavily rose. The working middle-class became afraid of its own city, and people started to flee to the outskirts and other suburbs in Michigan. Big companies that had grown in the area also began to move away from the Motor City, and eventually, most of the downtown area was abandoned. It was not until about 5 years ago that people realized that Detroit needed a change, a revival. So they started to repopulate downtown Detroit, especially the young people who were graduating from really good universities nearby and wanted to live in an urban environment. To attract more people, they used the old buildings, that were once so prolific and had become dilapidated with time and abandonment, and turned them into new apartment complexes, hotels, banks, etc. Even the convention center where the conference I attended was taking place was a renovated older building. This has made of Detroit a living memory of its own past, and the city is once again gaining importance and relevance.

To match this wonderful environment, I chose to wear a timeless gray combination of peacoat with jeans which first of all, kept me warm and safe in the bone-chilling cold, and it also made a great match with the architecture of the city. Here you can see me in front of one of Detroit's oldest churches, look at how beautiful the arches and columns are! The whole color palette is really discreet, but it works well with the type of architecture behind and what these buildings represent. What do you think? Falling in love with the city as well? Feel free to leave your comments down below. That's all for the day folks! A little history lesson, a little style and fashion today. Thanks again for reading and remember to keep stylish and to continue putting your best look forward each day. Till next week!

Mixed Prints

Hi all!! It feels so good to finally be back in my beloved PNW. I had a blast in my trip to Detroit. Even though I had mentioned I was going to share my pics from the trip those are going to be delayed for the meantime due to a tiny incident with my camera. Not to worry, the photos are definitely coming later, so expect the Detroit post really soon. Another reason why I'm so happy to be back at the evergreen city is that I was able to reconnect with my fellow blogger friend Kimberly. You're totes amazing for taking the pics with your camera for this shoot by the way, you really made my day. You guys should for sure stop by her blog and share some love while you're at it.

Alright, so winter is settling in already. Can you believe a couple posts back I was still wearing short sleeves and shorts? These past few mornings I have felt the necessity of taking out the warm outwear from my closet and drawers. I love doing this because layering winter clothes is like painting on a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless; there is (almost) no way of getting it wrong this time of the year. I mean you have the excuse that you don't want to freeze in the cold, right? Furthermore, it's a time when you want to stand out in color, since the sun mischievously hides behind the clouds and you don't want to look all gray and dull.

Take a look at this combination of winter prints. Each piece by itself is already pretty colorful, but it's not until you put them together that magic happens. The key here is to know how to overlay the patterns. The vest has a square pattern, while the sweater has a horizontal one. This works well because the horizontal lines blend in, creating a sense of continuation. The vertical lines of the vest though still stand out, and it gives it the pop that just takes it to the next level. Then I just paired the mix with light blue chinos and my favorite shades.

I loved how this outfit turned out in the wilderness that we have in our backyard. What's your take on this? Like the idea? Now you can mix your favorite prints on this winter season and just knock it out of the park everyday. Feel free to share your comments and thanks for stopping by today. Keep posted for the Detroit trip pictures, since they are coming really soon, and as always keep stylish. Till next time!

Spooky Night

One thing that excites me every year is dressing up for Halloween parties. There's just something very cool about Halloween, because besides the spookiness and scariness of the date itself, it's an opportunity to become someone completely different for a night and have fun assembling and creating a whole new look for yourself. This year my friend and makeup artist Valerie helped me transform into one of the most iconic characters from my favorite childhood movies, Edward Scissorhands. The most challenging part of becoming this peculiar guy, originally portrayed by Johnny Depp in the film that holds the same name as the character, was definitely the makeup. I have documented the process down below of the amazing work she has done.

First, she cleaned my face and applied a special gel to make sure that my pores were not irritated by the base makeup. Since Edward doesn't have any eyebrows, she applied glue to them to be able to put some color on top, and she created the scars with some strips made out of latex.

Then she applied a thin cover of white makeup base that made my whole face pale white. This was the first touch of color in my face, but I could already feel like I could go out and scare a couple of kids looking like this.

After becoming a white face, she added some extra details that could be seen in the picture we were using as inspiration. She added some darker shades on my eyes and around my nose and cheeks to make my face look a bit more skull-like. She also painted my lips black and helped me give the wig a messy look by styling it with hairspray. By this point I also put on the jacket, pants, and scissors, which I got from Amazon, and the transformation was almost finished!

Finally, we went outside and got this awesome shot of the whole costume. Pretty impressive right? What did you guys dress up for Halloween? That's it for today. On Thursday I'll be traveling to Detroit for a recruiting trip and I can't wait to share with you the pics from my trip. I also want to thank Valerie for the top-notch work she did for my costume, girl you nailed it 100%! And last but not least, thanks to you for reading! If you were expecting a fashion and style entry, don't worry, more is coming really soon so just keep posted. Till next time, happy Halloween everyone!

Sweater Weather

If there's a piece of clothing I'm definitely in love with is any type of sweater. There's just something about the coziness of a knit sweater that no other article can provide, and they come in the most varied combinations of patterns, colors, and fabrics. Sweaters are also great options for the in-between seasons of spring and fall, since you can start your day feeling warm and protected and then by midday you can take it off when the sun is out.

Here I'm wearing one of my favorite sweaters. I love it because the pattern reminds me of the American tribes of the West, which focus a lot on symmetry and geometrical shapes in their artwork and paintings. The color palette is amazing as well, it kinda feels like a quilt or tapestry made wearable. It also has the reminiscence of Christmas which is a holiday I always wait for anxiously, and it's quite comfortable as well. The red chinos just help amp up the colors of the sweater in a very nice way, and a pair of rain boots and a wool hat with the UK flag complete the whole look. Do you guys like it? What's your favorite piece of clothing?

Today's post was a bit short, but I'm looking forward to sharing with you guys my Halloween outfit in the next post. Then I'm traveling by the end of next week, so I'll share some pics of the trip as soon as I can. Once again thanks for reading and feel free to write some comments below, let me know what you think of these outfits, or what do you want me to write about in future posts. And as always, remember to bring your best look forward each day. Till the next!

Topcoat

Hello again! So it's done, the warm weather is gone and fall has completely settled in. If you ever want to see beautiful fall foliage you should definitely come and see what the Pacific Northwest has waiting for you. This time of the year is utterly gorgeous up here in the Seattle area. Golden leaves decorate the trees in a very magical way. Even though it's all dark and cloudy the colors are so vibrant and inspiring. And not only the trees get to rock this whimsical, yellow disguise but the streets as well get a different look and feel with each fallen leaf that comes to the ground. It's like putting a wallpaper over the moist and cold pavement. Absolutely stunning.

With this amazing setting comes of course more fall attire, since I can really never get tired of cooler weather clothes. Like in this case, this belted trench coat from Topman just gave me chills the moment I saw it hanging in the store. It fits my body type so well, since I'm tall and sometimes I have problems with jackets or blazers being too short. It also has this old-school European feel which I love, and the pattern works well with almost anything underneath; a plain button-down with a sweater or cardigan will let the coat shine on its own. Since rain is becoming the norm as well, the boots complete the look and keep my feet from getting wet. Overall, I was greatly pleased with this combination. What's your take on this look? Do you guys like it as much as I do? Share your comments below and let me know what you think.

So that's it, this is the ensemble I wanted to share with you today. I've been receiving lots of feedback on Facebook and on the blog and I want to thank you all for doing that. It just encourages me to try and be a better writer and a better blogger, and really motivates me to put my best look forward every day. I also want to thank my roommate for taking most of my pictures, because without him the blog wouldn't be alive. You guys are awesome! Remember to be stylish and to be bold; let your voice be heard. Till next time!
